01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Expectations for the meal begin as soon as the otoshi, the table appetizer, arrives. At Toriryori Koharu in Takasago, Katsushika Ward, guests are welcomed with thoughtful small dishes such as a warm, gently simmered chicken wingette pot. Paired with a fresh glass of beer, the evening quietly gets underway.

One standout dish frequently mentioned by diners is the toro-liver marinated in tare. Silky and free of gaminess, the chicken liver is coated in a rich, savory tare sauce; breaking the accompanying egg yolk adds a mellow creaminess that pairs naturally with alcohol. From the grill, individual skewers showcase different textures and flavors, including flavorful Aomori Shamorock chicken that releases deeper umami with every chew, juicy Hinai-jidori chicken, rich negima skewers layered with scallion, and springy hearts. For a lighter contrast, chicken heart with citrusy ponzu and aromatic garnishes, or chicken breast skewers served with wasabi, make refreshing alternatives.

The beverage selection is equally compelling. Alongside seasonal draft beers such as Shirohonoka and Kohaku Yebisu, the bar features distinctive mixed drinks like sansho pepper highballs and cardamom highballs, as well as a thoughtful lineup of shochu and sake. To conclude the meal, the chicken hitsumabushi offers two ways to eat: enjoyed on its own first, then finished with savory dashi broth poured over the rice for a deeply satisfying end.

With an atmosphere reminiscent of a relaxed bar, the space also features counter seating, making solo dining comfortable and unhurried. Operating only during the evening, the restaurant accepts cash payments, so planning ahead with cash in hand ensures a smooth visit.
